October's Labyrinths and Rings series pairs our current resident artist with a researcher from the other corner of Europe.
Artūrs Punte was born in Riga in 1977. He graduated from the Maxim Gorky Literature Institute, in Moscow, and currently works in advertising. Punte’s conceptual projects include “Bubbleshow” (www.bubbleshow.com, with Dmitrijs Zagga) and “Как хочешь!” (www.re-lab.net/KX, with Vladimirs Svetlovs); he is also the author of several poetic video projects and was an organizer of the poetic video festival “Word in Motion” in 2001 and 2003. Punte edits the journal “Орбита” and the Web site www.orbita.lv, and compiled the collection “Dengi/Науда” in 2001. He writes poetry in Russian and Latvian and translates poetry from the Latvian.
GILFER, Miguel Angel Fernández Gil, was born in Madrid in 1967. In his childhood he showed a strong interest in the art world, which led him to choose between Fine Arts and Architecture at his pre-college, finally deciding on the plastic arts. He studied at the UCM where he specialized in the field of painting, graduating in 1990. Over the next ten years, GILFER worked intensively in the field of painting, with a variety of exhibitions, competitions, scholarships. He is currently working through HIAP, researching cultural production systems in contemporary art.
